After a long hibernation, spring is erupting all around us. The flowers and trees are in full bloom and the grass is growing so fast it seems I have to mow my lawn every other day. Many families are gearing up for school activities, graduations, weddings, and vacations. It’s easy to find ourselves swept up in an overwhelming whirlwind of activity. I have to remind myself, quit complaining and enjoy it! In the midst of all these wonderful things, I encourage you to remember, it’s the relationships that matter. Listening to each other, laughing, working, playing, even crying together is more important than how the cupcakes turned out. Take timeout and attend church this week. The Lord is the source of love, forgiveness, joy, hope and peace that makes no earthly sense. Don’t neglect him. Let him be who he is, the glue that holds it all together.

Don’t forget to honor the mothers in your life this Sunday. Remember, we don’t honor our moms based on how successful they’ve been; we honor them because God told us to. Your mom chose to carry you in her womb for 9 months or you wouldn’t be here. She fed you, changed your diapers, nursed you when you were sick and tried to teach you right from wrong. She may not have done it perfectly, but then you weren’t exactly easy to raise! She did the best she could with what she had to work with. So mom, grandma, step-mothers, and foster mothers, thank you! You deserve more praise than criticism. Forgive us for our failures and we’ll forgive you for yours. We love you.

If the weather man is right we’ve got some glorious days ahead. Maybe the mud in the baseball dugouts will even dry out! After a long winter we’re all anxious to get outside! But we may struggle with what to do first. Nobody wants to burn daylight doing stuff that ends up being a waste of time. I was 23 years old, living for myself, running from one thing to another, trying to fill an emptiness within me I couldn’t identify. Then the Lord broke into my life with words as clear as a bell. “Time is short, there is much work to be done, and you’ve been wasting time.” His words drilled me and I started a search for where God fit into my life. What I found was a joy, a meaning, a fulfillment I’d never known before. Have you been killing time? Come learn more at Christ Lutheran in Whitefish this Sunday.

“Surely Goodness and Mercy shall follow me all the days of my life” Listen to Pastor John's message: http://www.clcwhitefish.org/sermons/sermon-details.php?messageID=615&queryWhere=messageID&queryValue=615
This Sunday is Palm Sunday. We remember Jesus riding into Jerusalem on a donkey as the children waved palm branches and sang, “Hosanna, blessed is he who comes in the name of the LORD.” That’s nice, but there’s more afoot. This is the hinge of history. When Adam and Eve sinned and were driven from paradise a gate was shut behind them. But God promised to one day open that gate again. The forces of evil did their best to keep that gate locked shut but one man, God Incarnate, conquered them with the power of his love. Easter makes no sense without the rest of the story so come join us this Sunday as we remember what God did to unlock the gate and swing open the hinge between death and life.

Over the last few weeks we’ve been examining Psalm 23 – the Lord is my shepherd. This Sunday we study David’s final line. “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever!” It sounds like God’s goodness and mercy are trailing after us where ever we go. But that’s backwards! The true meaning is that God’s goodness and mercy is continually pursuing us, even when we stray and that’s our salvation. God’s goodness and mercy are steadfast, unfailing, steady as a rock. We, one the other hand, are fickle as the Montana weather. Come hear more about the tenacious goodness and mercy of God this Sunday at Christ Lutheran in Whitefish. You will be amazed.
